Mostyn McKenzie, a beloved shoe chain, has permanently closed its last store in Perth, Scotland, after 60 years on the high street. The store confirmed that May 2, 2026, is its final day of in-store business.
Rising costs and changing shopping habits led to this decision. Graeme McKenzie stated that footfall in Perth has dropped considerably.
Founded in 1966, Mostyn McKenzie once operated branches across the UK, including locations in Aberdeen and Edinburgh. All other stores have already shut down, including the flagship store in Aberdeen in 2023.
The business has struggled to recover from the impacts of Covid. Graeme McKenzie noted, “The shoe shop had never really recovered from Covid.”
To mark the closure, Mostyn McKenzie launched a clearance sale with up to 70% off online stock. This move aims to clear remaining inventory as they wind down operations.
Graeme McKenzie emphasized the challenges faced by high street retail: “Costs have increased, shopping habits have changed.” Many retailers are feeling similar pressures.
