Scotland demonstrated resilience in their Nations Championship match against South Africa in Pretoria, battling back from deficits of 14 and 21 points. Despite their efforts, South Africa ultimately secured a 42-28 victory. This result means Scotland‘s quest for a first Test win against the Springboks on South African soil continues.
The match saw Scotland earn a bonus point, with tries scored by Matt Fagerson, Kyle Rowe, Josh Bayliss, and Ben White. According to Scotland captain Sione Tuipulotu, the hosts were more clinical in their execution, leveraging their physical strike power.

Ben White then scored his tenth try for Scotland in the 70th minute, securing a bonus point for his team, with Russell converting to make it 35-28.
However, South Africa sealed their victory in the 77th minute when Jesse Kriel scored their sixth try, converted by Quan Horn, bringing the final score to 42-28.

Several Scotland players delivered notable performances. Sione Tuipulotu, the captain, played for the full 80 minutes, contributing significantly with 14 carries and 72 metres gained. Finn Russell was instrumental in attack, creating multiple try-scoring opportunities and converting four tries. Kyle Rowe also made an impact, gaining 54 metres and beating five defenders, in addition to scoring a try in the first half.
Among the forwards, Jack Dempsey was effective with the ball, gaining 44 attacking metres and making 15 tackles. Matt Fagerson scored a try and made 15 hits on defence. Scott Cummings was active in the lineout and gained 30 metres as a ball carrier.
