Tsb: Santander Acquires for £2.65 Billion

tsb — GB news

Santander has completed its acquisition of TSB for £2.65 billion. This merger, effective May 1, 2026, is the largest investment in the UK banking sector in over 15 years.

Approximately five million TSB customers will now join Santander UK. This acquisition brings around £71.5 billion in gross customer assets to Santander, enhancing its position significantly.

With this merger, Santander becomes the third-largest bank for customer accounts in the UK and the fourth-largest for mortgage lending. Lloyds remains the largest retail bank with about 26 million customers.

David Oldfield has replaced Nick Prettejohn as chair of TSB. The new board will also include Nicola Bannister, Alison Straszweksi, and Mahesh Aditya.

Mahesh Aditya stated, “This is excellent news for UK banking with the acquisition representing the single largest investment in the sector for over 15 years.” He added that bringing TSB into Santander strengthens competitiveness in the market.

Santander shocked the City last year after outbidding rivals to secure TSB Bank. The transaction is expected to finalize in the first half of 2027.

As this merger unfolds, officials have not confirmed how it will affect existing customer services or product offerings.
