FC Barcelona has reportedly initiated discussions regarding a potential transfer for Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane. Reports indicate that the Catalan club has contacted Kane’s representatives to explore the possibility of him joining the team. This development comes as Kane is currently focused on England’s campaign in the 2026 World Cup knockout rounds.
According to one report, Barcelona has reached out to Kane’s camp to ascertain his willingness to move from the Allianz Arena to Camp Nou this summer. While Kane’s representatives are said to have initially dismissed the interest, there is an understanding that the situation could be revisited once England’s participation in the World Cup concludes. Kane, who is 32, is reportedly content at Bayern Munich, where he has one year remaining on his contract.
Despite his current focus on international duties, Kane’s club situation is expected to be addressed after England’s tournament run. Barcelona has not yet submitted a formal offer to either Kane’s representatives or Bayern Munich. Previous inquiries suggested that Kane was happy in Bavaria and did not wish to leave, even though his contract is set to expire in 2027.
Kane’s contract situation and Barcelona’s interest
Kane is approaching the final 12 months of his contract with Bayern Munich. He will be eligible to leave as a free agent in the summer of 2027 if a new deal is not agreed upon. While Kane reportedly desires an extension until 2030, Bayern is said to prefer a two-year extension.
This contractual situation could present an opportunity for Barcelona to potentially acquire Kane for a reduced fee, rather than Bayern losing him for free in 2027. Barcelona is reportedly prepared to pursue Kane vigorously if there is any indication of his interest in a move to Camp Nou this summer.
Kane’s potential arrival could offer Barcelona a solution to their striking options. Robert Lewandowski is set to depart the club on June 30 as a free agent, with reports suggesting his next destination could be Chicago Fire. Lewandowski scored 120 goals in 193 appearances for Barcelona.
Kane, who scored 61 times in 51 games across all competitions last season for Bayern, is seen as a prolific goalscorer. He joined Bayern in 2023 and has since scored 146 goals in 147 games, winning two Bundesliga titles, the German Cup, and the German Super Cup.
World Cup performance and future prospects
During the 2026 World Cup group stage, Kane scored three goals for England. This included a brace in a 4-2 victory over Croatia and another goal against Panama, assisted by Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham. These goals made him England’s all-time top scorer in World Cup finals, surpassing Gary Lineker.
England is scheduled to face DR Congo in the World Cup round of 32. Kane’s focus remains on his national team’s progress through the knockout stages in North America. He is reportedly looking to overcome previous disappointments in Euro finals in 2021 and 2024.
Barcelona has previously made successful signings of experienced Bayern veterans, such as Robert Lewandowski in 2022. Lewandowski, who was nearing his 34th birthday at the time, was acquired for $57 million (€50 million) and maintained a high goalscoring form due to his professionalism. Kane is also described as a professional still performing at a high level.
While Barcelona remains interested in Julian Alvarez, a deal for him is reportedly complicated due to Atletico Madrid’s reluctance to sell to a rival, with his price tag reportedly around $175 million. Kane’s ability to link up play and his passing game are also seen as beneficial attributes for Barcelona, potentially enhancing the performance of players like Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.
Kane will lead England against DR Congo in the World Cup round of 32 on Wednesday.
