Juha Miettinen died after a multi-car collision during the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers on April 18, 2026.
The incident involved seven drivers. Emergency services arrived promptly but were unable to save Miettinen after he was extracted from his vehicle.
Miettinen, aged 66, died at the medical centre despite attempts at resuscitation being unsuccessful.
Six other drivers involved in the crash were taken to the Medical Centre and nearby hospitals for precautionary examinations. Fortunately, none of them are in a life-threatening condition.
This tragic event occurred just before a race featuring four-time Formula One champion Max Verstappen.
Max Verstappen expressed his shock, stating, “Shocked by what’s happened today. Motorsport is something we all love, but in times like this it is a reminder of how dangerous it can be. Sending my heartfelt condolences to Juha’s family and loved ones.”
A minute’s silence will be held in Miettinen’s honour during the grid formation for the next race.
